Actually, I think both teams had a somewhat easy road to get there. I'll be writing up a post on the Phillies and obviously as I'm not too happy about the outcome of the season, there will be some in-depth criticisms. Other than the season being extremely long, I don't think either team was very "battle tested" before getting to the playoffs. Of course I'm not saying they are bad - it's more of a statement about how poor the rest of the league in its inability to compete.

I'm glad you argued my steroids point. Actually, we know JC Romero tested positive for steroids this season, was suspended 50 games, then remained on the injured list most of the season. I'm sure there are guys on every team who have used them, but until the names come out, I have to go with what has been proven and admitted to. A-Rod admitted he took them - how do you root for a guy like that? Is it OK just because he said he's sorry?

Finally, my point about "most fans" is that I think most fans who watch baseball, especially in the playoffs, are not real fans. If you saw one of my Tweets today, I wrote "Goodbye, bandwagon fans. See you next October." I was referring to Phillies fans. Everyone at work suddenly shows up wearing Phillies gear, but they are nowhere to be found in the Spring or Summer. It's natural for people to want to jump on when a team is doing well if they are not true baseball fans. Since the Yankees have the most fans outside of where they live, I don't consider these people baseball fans and they have nothing in common with real Yankees fans, so you shouldn't take offense. If the Phillies had 27 championships they'd be Phillies fans. These are the people who are also Lakers and Cowboys fans. They are who I was addressing my frustration at.

Wow, this is a bit harsh. Are you seriously wondering how the Yankees got to the World Series? If you say that, I can't wait to hear what you say about the Phillies, who lost to the Yankees in 6 games (and couldn't beat them without Cliff Lee pitching).

Also, you bring up the steroids thing...do you honestly believe that no one on the Phillies has used (or is using) steroids? You do realize that there are still 90-something other players on the list that A-Rod was on, don't you?

One thing that I will agree with you on is the fans in the stadium for the first two games. I really think this has everything to do with the cost of the tickets at the new stadium. The tickets are so expensive that the majority of fans are business people that aren't really die hard fans. Trust me, I was at game 6 of the 96 World Series. The stadium was shaking and it was so loud in there that I couldn't hear myself scream.

I do have to take offense to you making such a general statement like "most Yankee fans aren't baseball fans." I grew up watching the Yankees in the 80s and can remember rooting for them to just finish .500. I know you'll just lump me in with those not in the "most" group, but I know a lot of Yankee fans and most of them are serious baseball fans, not just bandwagon fans.

As fans, it's natural to have the perspective that a blown call has more of an impact on your own team, because we are obviously biased towards our own players. Whether it affects my team positively or negatively, I would rather the call be correct every single time.

The bottom line is we have the technology to do it, and for the sake of the sport (meaning the fan's trust in it's legitimacy), I feel it's necessary on some level to ensure the fairest outcome.

I really don't care how they implement it, but the sooner the better. Thanks for your thoughts, Dave.

What I'm thinking regarding instant replay is that it should definitely only be used in the playoffs. The regular season is long enough that I really don't think it would make a difference to use replay then. The post season is different because one game being blown by a call can change the entire series.

As for how to handle it, I think there could just be one extra umpire in the booth. If the field umpires decide that they need help with a call, they could then have the booth umpire make the call. It should also have to be definitive in order for the booth ump to overrule a call.

I like the idea of having the field umpires make the call to use replay because if the managers made that call then they'd be requesting it on every close play. That could get very disruptive to the game. I also don't like the idea of having the booth ump just call down and overrule a play because that would make it feel like you don't even need field umps at that point.

I'm sure there are other ways to do it and maybe I'd like one of them better, but that's my initial thought.

One correction that I have to make...in the Utley double play, had Utley been safe it would have been 1st and 3rd with 2 outs, not only 1 out.

I'm still thinking about how I feel about instant replay. I'll give that some thought and write more later.

I was heartbroken when I read the news earlier.

I broke sown along with Michael Barkann on the post game show.

Very upsetting news in Philadelphia today.
